5 out of 5 stars Absolutely on the mark!   April 12, 2002

This book covers every issue that you will encounter in the typical foster care setting. I can not recommend this book strongly enough. It should be given out as a textbook at training sessions. Nothing we were told or personal experiences that were related to us in training cover what is going to happen with your first placement to your 10th. Do not hesitate to purchase this book and copies for anyone you know that is or wants to be a foster parent. Of course it won't solve the problems that you encounter unless you have lots of patience, understanding and maturity.

A great book for explaining to children exactly what the "system" involves. I highly recommend foster parents and their foster children to read and discuss this book together. It covers every frustration and question a foster child has. It also has some very valuable information for foster parents. I plan on getting one for everyone of my foster children.

This book has been invaluable to children who have been in our care. We read it to/with each new child, who seems refreshed & relieved after hearing it. We often re-read it...& refer to it when tough, unanswerable questions arise. In fact, the kids here now can identify when they are asking a question that is currently unanswerable...& they'll all chime in, "Maybe Days!" with a smile. I'm not suggesting that this book fixes problems. I'm saying that it helps the kids cope with the loose ends & unanswered questions.

BRAVO!

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding and very realistic   January 15, 2007

I work with children in the school setting and often counsel children who are in foster care. This book is outstanding! Children can identify with the experiences and questions depicted in the text. The book does not sugarcoat the process (e.g., acknowledges that adjusting to life in a new family can be hard), but it does offer hope and comfort and encouragement for kids to live their own lives despite the uncertainties. I can't imagine a better book for this population.

I work for and adoption agency with children in the foster care system and I LOVE this book. I have not found a better book to explain why to a child why they are in foster care and what is happening around them. This book explains complex topics in a very simple and easy to understand language.
